Southern Pacific Depot Restoration
ACEL Fresno Charter High School chose the historic Southern Pacific Rail Depot in downtown Fresno as the site for a permanent home. The building’s owner, Robert Ellis, contracted with John Burt to produce the tenant improvement drawings, but having completed ACEL’s building program (link to project), we provided initial guidance to translate ACEL’s needs for the spatial constraints of the depot.
As the project progressed, due diligence showed that a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) would be required by the City of Fresno before ACEL could move in. spacio was asked by Robert Ellis to process the CUP application. We were able to quickly process the application, addressing comments from the historic preservation, fire, and traffic departments.
Through this project we developed a strong working relationship with the tenant, building owner, contractor, and the city.
