spa * ci * o (spah-see-oh) n.
Referring to space – a fundamental component of architecture.  The Italianization of the word ‘space’ [spazio] is a gesture of appreciation toward the Romans – who we believe advanced architecture more than any other culture past, present and future.

de * sign (dee-zayn) v.
The act of [re]interpreting ideas, devising an organizational logic, cataloging and responding to context, in a way that gives the ideas form.

Maintaining a studio culture is very important to our operation.  From the studios of our universities to the studios of the artists and sculptors who we work with and admire, we recognize that creativity thrives in a setting that is full of energy, open, in touch with public/civic life, austere and void of corporate stereotype.  Our primary studio spaces are in Fresno and Los Angeles, however with our mobile capabilities we are often on site with our clients in the Bay Area and Southern California.

The product of our work is always visual.  This can manifest itself in the form of a digital presentation via projector, hand sketch mounted on a wall, physical model set of a table top, plans rolled out in front of a client or a presentation using props.  This diversity allows us the flexibility of catering to each client in a way that is as unique as the clients themselves.  Because our staff has the talent and skills to deliver high quality presentation in any format, we maintain equipment and products to accommodate each.  We also reach out to our colleagues in graphic design, branding, product design, art and fashion industries to advise and collaborate with us.

We are about testing and proving ideas. We straddle the urban environs of Los Angeles and Fresno because we believe both places are excellent laboratories for design at all scales.

History
The ideation stage of Spacio began 2005 in the design studios of SCI-arc. It took the greatest economic decline in generations to breathe life into and truly launch the idea. November of 2009, Spacio Design formally incorporated. We incorporated innovative designers, provocative leaders, and passionate problem solvers. We are idealistic enough to believe we can design ourselves out of the recession. We work hard and practical enough to make it happen.
